ABOUT THE RELEASE
A biographer’s nightmare. Ask the Encore duo to mention some influences and you will only get a polite silence in return. You have to flip through the book they scribble after each concert release. They write down the ones that the public wants to assign to them : LCD Soundsystem, Moderat, Zombie Zombie, Nathan Fake, Kraftwerk…
By scratching well, we will learn that Clément Chanaud-Ferrenq was involved with hip hop in his early years. That he played drums for a few months in a metal band. That today he spends hours flipping rhythms and synth boxes. For her part, Maria Laurent has for a while been brutalizing her keyboards, especially electric, the Pianet having succeeded the Fender Rhodes, in some improv/ experimental/noise music projects.
The two met in 2015 in Strasbourg, France.
Few words. A dive in sound.
Not really rock, not quite electronic. In France, the bookers are still looking for the right checkbox. Elsewhere, Encore rocks after midnight. A music of trance, of joyous dance, which does not bother with questions. An atypical presence: They play on the ground, in the middle of the audience, back to back.
The music of Encore does not tame with the intellect, it plays with the physical, the exhaustion and the body.
