ABOUT THE RELEASE

I envision this piece as a series of embraces for the ears and the “soul”.
— Alan Regardin

Inspired by traditional drone music as well as early and contemporary music, this piece for trombone, flugelhorn, saxophone and positive organ focuses on intonation and textures, both harmonic and timbral, as well as chord iteration, plunging the listener into a state of loss of temporal reference points.

Time is dilated to permit the contemplation of an all-too-frequently elusive present, to attempt to phase in and find resonance within oneself and with the elements of our world.

Alan Regardin produced this piece for the positive organ, an instrument which is more easily tuned to a particular temperament than larger organs, relationships in frequency, other than what is referred to as equal temperament, are induced.

The composer worked with organist and tuner Mickaël Durand and Etienne Ferchaud (artistic director of the Macadam Ensemble), to gain an understanding of this instrument and its tuning possibilities.

Alan Regardin is a musician and composer living in Nantes, France. He develops a personal approach to the trumpet and electronics. He focuses his approach on the nature of sound and its vibratory spaces in the field of experimental music by way of noise and traditional music.

He notably performs solo and in the bands Derby Derby, No Tongues and Onceim. He is a co-founder of Ormo Records.
