Brooklyn’s The Letter Yellow will release their debut album, Walking Down The Streets in Europe in September 2013. The 12-track record explores life in the streets and crowds of New York and sonically reflects its inspiration with a rock n’ roll that is equal parts upbeat and moody, with shape-shifting vocals that can be dark or pretty, alternatively jagged and warm guitars creating texture, a strong steady beat and lyrics that are both offbeat and universal.

Walking Down The Streets takes you on a tour of New York City via the streets and sites traveled by songwriter Randy Bergida. From Bleecker St to Hope St, from United Palace in Harlem, to Port Authority to the Williamsburg Bridge and Coney Island, we travel through a couple boroughs, ride several train lines and walk lots of streets all the while eavesdropping on conversations, falling in love, feeling lonely, and trying to find our way in this chaotic city. The album’s city center point is Greenpoint Brooklyn where the entire band calls home as well as where the album was written, tracked, mixed and mastered…

Horror rock & roll band The Rippers from Gigors (France) and Brighton (UK) started in 2008 as a four-piece comprised of Totome Lantheaume on bass, Franck Metzler on drums, Jill Strong singing and Ivan Tziboulsky on guitar.
The four track ‘Song for the Constipated’ EP was released in 2008 and the critically acclaimed ‘Daniel Phosphorus’ / ‘James Dean died in a car crash’ single followed shortly afterwards in early 2009.
Director David Basso collaborated with the band to make the video for ‘Daniel Phosphorus’ on the colossal budget of 300 euros, most of which went on alcoholic beverages to bribe several real actors to participate.

In 2010 Franck left to ‘get a proper job’ and the line-up changed to its current dynamic format with Lol N’Bongo hammering out rock and roll rhythms and Raphael Carrara surfing on a blast of psychedelic keyboards.

In Sept 2013 the band released their first album entitled ‘STIFF’ – eight original tracks and ‘Not to touch the Earth’ by The Doors. The Ripper’s ‘Tell me ’bout the kink in the things you think’ was immediately hailed by Classic Rock magazine (UK) as “A garage belter that makes Imelda May sound like Sarah Brightman.”

The playful, sophisticated dance pop of Italian duo M+A’s second album These Days is so seamlessly hooky and compelling that upon listening it’s hard to imagine a world without it. It’s a perfect distillation of a yearning for endless summer.
M+A’s 2011 debut Things.Yes was an inventive and spirited exploration of an organic, heartfelt variety of genre-hopping electro-acoustic pop that promised many good things to come from the young artists. But, perhaps nothing could’ve prepared us for These Days.
M+A is Michele Ducci, 22, (vocals, instruments) and Alessandro Degli Angioli, 25, (instruments) of Forli, Italy. Much like their French neighbors to the northwest, M+A explore dance music as a medium for emotional expression much more than a conduit for cold, cut ‘n’ pasted samples and beats. M+A’s euphoric electronic pop is clever, but not for cleverness’ sake. Ducci’s earnest and delicate vocals, which hearken to the warmth of Phoenix’s Thomas Mars, pair the bittersweet edge found in the best classic pop songs with the buttoned-up retro dance grooves of Beck and Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories…

Fernando Corona
Hailing from Tijuana, on the Mexico/US border, and now a Barcelona resident, Fernando Corona rose to attention as part of Mexican collective Nortec, mostly for his work as Terrestre, but it is with another project, Murcof, that he has made an extremely strong impact. Merging micro-beats with samples of contemporary classical music, his work, often crystallised into sweeping haunting pieces, bridges the gap between Arvo Pärt or Henryk Górecki and part of the electronic scene of today. He is credited with being one of the main influences of the likes of Erik Skodvin and of many of the artists who have appeared on Miasmah in recent years.

Philippe Petit
This self-styled musical activist began his career as a journalist and DJ in his native Marseille, and went on to form Pandemonium Rdz., a label with which he explored the outer reaches of experimental rock, before turning his interest to electronic music by setting up BiP_HOp Records at the beginning of the noughties. Since 2009, his focus has shifted once again, this time on his own music, a refined blend which can incorporate elements of experimental rock rock or classical music and can take the form of complex electronic, electroacousticism, experimentation or turntablism. Although Petit occasionally works alone, it is in the collaborative space where he truly thrives, casting his sonic world against that of the likes of Eugene S. Robinson, Lydia Lunch, Pietro Riparbelli, Bella Emerson, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Asva & loads more…

sleepmakeswaves “…and so we destroyed everything”

sleepmakeswaves is a melodic instrumental rock quartet from Sydney, Australia, whose debut album “…and so we destroyed everything” made such an impact in their homeland that it was unprecedentedly nominated for an ARIA award — Australia’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Such a coup for a style of music so often marginalized highlights something truly important about this band: its music is so immersive, powerful and evocative that it, above all else, speaks to people on an individual level, beyond categorization.
The strength of great instrumental music is its ability to communicate without the traditional trappings of someone singing about specific emotions. The music itself touches each listener differently. And, as in the case of sleepmakeswaves, there is a symphonic transcendence to the band’s sound that encompasses a wide variety of colours – ranging from ambient soundscapes, to soaring melodic hooks and moments of dark, brooding intensity. There are electronic layers interwoven with slow-burning builds, churning metallic riffs segueing into beautifully lush melodies, wistful strings blossoming out of neo-folk marches. “…and so we destroyed everything” encompasses so much more than is typical of the vast array of sounds to have become known as post-rock, ranging from Sigur Ros to Explosions In the Sky to Russian Circles to Caspian and beyond.

Midnight Faces is a new duo of comprised of musicians Philip Stancil and Matthew Warn.
Barely into his teens, Warn began making music with childhood friend Jonny Pierce (of The Drums), resulting in a full-length album released by Columbia Records. At age twenty, Warn went on to co-found post-rock instrumental giants Saxon Shore with Josh Tillman (of Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty), releasing two albums produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, Flaming Lips) and three EP’s.
Stancil also began his musical career early, growing up in a family of musicians, and singing and playing guitar with various bands starting in his teens. Introduced to each other by a mutual friend, Warn and Stancil hit it off, but it was a couple of years before they attempted to write together.
“I had been writing new music during Saxon Shore’s hiatus, with no idea as to where the songs would end up,” Warn says. “Towards the end of 2012, I asked Phil to take a shot at adding vocals to a couple of the tunes and that’s when things started to fall into place.”…

Marvin are a three piece band from Montpellier France.
Two years of marathon songwriting sessions, passionate collaboration, and meticulous engineering have resulted in Barry, their third album, second for Africantape and the first in the USA for Sick Room Records LTD. Marvin is known across Europe for their frenetic live shows, and this record is an attempt to capture the feeling.
Like three mighty gods, Emilie, Greg and Fred use all their powers to create some of the most glorious, sexy electro-punk to sweep across the landscape. Imagine that a storm is brewing, the heavens torn asunder. From the west you have solid, riff-heavy rock and roll, the electricity of AC/DC infused with the venom of the Jesus Lizard, blowing through town like a fierce wind. From the south we see another current approaching, bombastic, throbbing, sensual, Eno-inspired, big-beat electronica. These two forces collide and intermix to produce music that is upbeat, energetic and boisterous. The different elements hit you at different times, the visceral rumble of an 808, the squeal of a synth, thrashy-swirly live drum fills, guitar licks that pop and shimmer like lightning, all in all serious torrent of sound that ignites the whole room and gets everyone dancing.
Drummer Greg Marvin adds, “We basically made this record because we love touring and were tired of playing the same songs at our gigs.”

The days of a “standard band” have come to an end, and Live Footage epitomizes the modern band to the fullest. Conceived through the art of improvisation, Topu Lyo plays a 5 string electric cello, incorporating the use of live loops and a handful of electronics with no pre-recorded samples of any kind, and Mike Thies plays drums and keyboards, often simultaneously…

The first entry in Aagoo’s new Rev. Lab. series is Swedish composer and multimedia artist Marcus Fjellström’s EP “Epilogue -M-”. The EP follows the critically acclaimed albums “Gebrauchsmusik” (2006, Lampse), “Exercises in Estrangement” (2005, Lampse), “Schattenspieler” (2010, Miasmah Recor- dings) and the self-released “Library Music 1″ (2011, Kafkagarden).
Fjellström’s artistic output ranges from the purely orchestral to electronic music and audiovisual work. He has worked with the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as well as numerous ensembles and soloists, independent record labels, artists and filmmakers. In his works, Fjellström often aims to combine opposites so that they don’t contradict each other, but rather fuse into a natural, third element. There is often a challenging of the gap between “high” and “low” culture, of the naïve and the sophisticated, of good and bad taste. Musical influences range from electronica such as Aphex Twin and Autechre, to 20th century composers such as György Ligeti and John Cage. Further influences include impressionist composers Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, and film music composers Bernard Herrmann, Angelo Badalamenti and Zden?k Liška…

White “III”

WHITE is the solo stage name of Cory Thomas Hanson, an experimental pop musician and visual artist based in Los Angeles. White began in 2008 as a summer-away-from-art-school recording project. Utilizing cheap electronics, loop pedals, and torrented music software: Hanson shaped a sound that was more based in textural soundscapes, and hypno-rhythmic drones than traditio- nal melodies and songwriting.
For Hanson, the name “White” draws from concept rather than convention. Signifying a primordial “white plane, consistent, endless, with no horizon” for which all content is either added or subtracted upon. Hanson chose the name based on an attraction to intensity, the transcendent, like an insect drawn to white light.
White’s first two records, “Sunna”(2009) and “Twin Tigers” (2011) were released while Hanson was still attending Cal Arts. Once graduated, Hanson travelled extensively, touring solo and in friend’s bands Mikal Cronin and Pangea. He toured the West Coast and played shows in Mexico, SXSW, and NYC. Then toured Europe with the Mikal Cronin band in the summer. It was during this time that he began writing and recording his third album, titled “III”…

Sorrow “Dreamstone”

‘Dreamstone’ is the debut long-player from the highly talented UK producer Sorrow.
Sorrow’s electronic, beats-driven music floats above the furthest reaches of Ambient Dubstep, propelled aloft by a dubbed out, sonorous Garage hybrid of his own invention. A series of self-released tracks, remixes and EPs over the last two years, as well as collaborations with other artists (including Stumbleine, Asa and Submerse) have rapidly earned him a profile as one of the UK’s rising producers.
True to his moniker, Sorrow’s music has an underlying current of melancholy, with mournful strings and piano and ghostly vocals, but he balances the mood artfully with head-bobbing beats and a wonky sense of humour that emerges unexpectedly here and there.
In ‘Dreamstone’, the lush strings and languid zig-zag beats of ‘Embrace’ flow into the Bossa Nova lounge of ‘Maelys’, which in turn yields to the darker, more experimental tones of ‘Supernova’…
