Marvin are a three piece band from Montpellier France.
Two years of marathon songwriting sessions, passionate collaboration, and meticulous engineering have resulted in Barry, their third album, second for Africantape and the first in the USA for Sick Room Records LTD. Marvin is known across Europe for their frenetic live shows, and this record is an attempt to capture the feeling.
Like three mighty gods, Emilie, Greg and Fred use all their powers to create some of the most glorious, sexy electro-punk to sweep across the landscape. Imagine that a storm is brewing, the heavens torn asunder. From the west you have solid, riff-heavy rock and roll, the electricity of AC/DC infused with the venom of the Jesus Lizard, blowing through town like a fierce wind. From the south we see another current approaching, bombastic, throbbing, sensual, Eno-inspired, big-beat electronica. These two forces collide and intermix to produce music that is upbeat, energetic and boisterous. The different elements hit you at different times, the visceral rumble of an 808, the squeal of a synth, thrashy-swirly live drum fills, guitar licks that pop and shimmer like lightning, all in all serious torrent of sound that ignites the whole room and gets everyone dancing.
Drummer Greg Marvin adds, “We basically made this record because we love touring and were tired of playing the same songs at our gigs.”

Live Footage is often described as some of the finest “surrealist soundtrack composers” in the making by scoring some of the most eclectic contemporary pieces in film, fashion, dance and in tune composing their own music.
The days of a “standard band” have come to an end, and Live Footage epitomizes the modern band to the fullest. Conceived through the art of improvisation, Topu Lyo plays a 5 string electric cello, incorporating the use of live loops and a handful of electronics with no pre-recorded samples of any kind, and Mike Thies plays drums and keyboards, often simultaneously…

Midnight Faces is a new duo of comprised of musicians Philip Stancil and Matthew Warn.
Barely into his teens, Warn began making music with childhood friend Jonny Pierce (of The Drums), resulting in a full-length album released by Columbia Records. At age twenty, Warn went on to co-found post-rock instrumental giants Saxon Shore with Josh Tillman (of Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty), releasing two albums produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, Flaming Lips) and three EP’s.
Stancil also began his musical career early, growing up in a family of musicians, and singing and playing guitar with various bands starting in his teens. Introduced to each other by a mutual friend, Warn and Stancil hit it off, but it was a couple of years before they attempted to write together.
“I had been writing new music during Saxon Shore’s hiatus, with no idea as to where the songs would end up,” Warn says. “Towards the end of 2012, I asked Phil to take a shot at adding vocals to a couple of the tunes and that’s when things started to fall into place.”…

The first entry in Aagoo’s new Rev. Lab. series is Swedish composer and multimedia artist Marcus Fjellström’s EP “Epilogue -M-”. The EP follows the critically acclaimed albums “Gebrauchsmusik” (2006, Lampse), “Exercises in Estrangement” (2005, Lampse), “Schattenspieler” (2010, Miasmah Recor- dings) and the self-released “Library Music 1″ (2011, Kafkagarden).
Fjellström’s artistic output ranges from the purely orchestral to electronic music and audiovisual work. He has worked with the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as well as numerous ensembles and soloists, independent record labels, artists and filmmakers. In his works, Fjellström often aims to combine opposites so that they don’t contradict each other, but rather fuse into a natural, third element. There is often a challenging of the gap between “high” and “low” culture, of the naïve and the sophisticated, of good and bad taste. Musical influences range from electronica such as Aphex Twin and Autechre, to 20th century composers such as György Ligeti and John Cage. Further influences include impressionist composers Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, and film music composers Bernard Herrmann, Angelo Badalamenti and Zden?k Liška…

White “III”

WHITE is the solo stage name of Cory Thomas Hanson, an experimental pop musician and visual artist based in Los Angeles. White began in 2008 as a summer-away-from-art-school recording project. Utilizing cheap electronics, loop pedals, and torrented music software: Hanson shaped a sound that was more based in textural soundscapes, and hypno-rhythmic drones than traditio- nal melodies and songwriting.
For Hanson, the name “White” draws from concept rather than convention. Signifying a primordial “white plane, consistent, endless, with no horizon” for which all content is either added or subtracted upon. Hanson chose the name based on an attraction to intensity, the transcendent, like an insect drawn to white light.
White’s first two records, “Sunna”(2009) and “Twin Tigers” (2011) were released while Hanson was still attending Cal Arts. Once graduated, Hanson travelled extensively, touring solo and in friend’s bands Mikal Cronin and Pangea. He toured the West Coast and played shows in Mexico, SXSW, and NYC. Then toured Europe with the Mikal Cronin band in the summer. It was during this time that he began writing and recording his third album, titled “III”…

Sorrow “Dreamstone”

‘Dreamstone’ is the debut long-player from the highly talented UK producer Sorrow.
Sorrow’s electronic, beats-driven music floats above the furthest reaches of Ambient Dubstep, propelled aloft by a dubbed out, sonorous Garage hybrid of his own invention. A series of self-released tracks, remixes and EPs over the last two years, as well as collaborations with other artists (including Stumbleine, Asa and Submerse) have rapidly earned him a profile as one of the UK’s rising producers.
True to his moniker, Sorrow’s music has an underlying current of melancholy, with mournful strings and piano and ghostly vocals, but he balances the mood artfully with head-bobbing beats and a wonky sense of humour that emerges unexpectedly here and there.
In ‘Dreamstone’, the lush strings and languid zig-zag beats of ‘Embrace’ flow into the Bossa Nova lounge of ‘Maelys’, which in turn yields to the darker, more experimental tones of ‘Supernova’…

Biography of You is a project consisting of questions and (possible) answers. It is a choral work, which, like a surrealist ‹cadavre exquis›, weaves a thread made of thoughts, images and feelings, allowing many to contribute to it and then to tie it again. The languages used are varied (texts, images, sounds), but the poetic mechanism is always the same: it is called «evocation».
Andrea Gabriele begins by analyzing his own modus operandi as a musician; what moves him to compose? It is not the classic inspiration, nor a simple need to express himself, it is rather the will to investigate his own mental and emotional processes, trying to fathom them and pass them on to the listener in an ever changing form. It is this mutation, this moldable nature of ideas, that is clearly felt throughout the project…

VENTURA Lausanne, SWITZERLAND
Founded in 2003, VENTURA is a rock trio mainly inspired by the nineties.
Among their influences, you may cite Superchunk, HUM, Failure, Shellac maybe a touch of Hot Snakes and why not a little Nirvana.
VENTURA have released numerous splits, a debut record called “Pa Capona” (Get A Life!) in 2006, a second one, “We Recruit” (Africantape) in 2010, year that also saw them collaborating with David Yow (Scratch Acid, The Jesus Lizard, QUI) for a seven inch single (Africantape, Lausanne Records).
VENTURA has toured Switzerland, Germany and France (and survived it). The new album, “Ultima Necat”, was once again recorded by Serge Morattel (Brazen, Knut, Tantrum) at his RecStudio in Geneva in October 2012, and was mastered at Golden Mastering in January 2013.
This is a darker and heavier record than its predecessor but manages to preserve its melodic side. A stormy record which nevertheless contains sunny intervals.
Besides VENTURA, Philippe, guitarist and singer, also plays solo under the moniker The Sinai Divers and released an album last year called “Elders”.

God has given us 2 new PAPIER TIGRE tracks.
Playing with the end of the world, he decided to concentrate on what was truly important : this 7-inch.
The A-side, “Personal Belongings” strikes immediately like an instant classic, a powerful pulse keeps the blood flowing, with the guitar’s interplay giving the directions, the vocal providing the heart- beat. The band’s sound is immediately recognizable and the crafts- manship is here mastered, giving soul, energy and intelligence to a track you want to listen to again and again…
The AA-side, “The difficult age” is a rollercoaster ride. Starting off with harsh layers of guitars, the song quickly moves on to moving atmosphere. Tension is lingering until it bursts out in the choruses. Demons are in the details, so they say.
There are a couple here and there and everywhere on this song.
PAPIER TIGRE’s first release on Chicago’s own Sick Room records will be supported with a 19-day North American tour.

“The minutes” is the seventh recording of Israel Martínez.
He is one of the most prominent young sound-multidisciplinary artists and electronic musicians today.
As in his previous albums he blends field recordings and electronic sounds, creating a constant flow from tension to quietness. There are 10 tracks, but “The minutes” can be listened to as one whole piece.
“The minutes” was composed between 2011 and 2012 in Mexico, a country in deep violent crisis. The government’s strategy of eradicating drug cartels detonated a war between organized crime, police and military, while affecting mainly innocent people.
Over 60,000 people died between 2006 and 2012. Many places experienced a social transformation; there were more empty playgrounds, abandoned streets and tension. On “The minutes” Martínez tried to express the exasperating feeling of uncertainty of a big sector of Mexican society, using the sound and compositions as a “communi- cation bridge”…
